Bruny vs. Taroona (Away)

Bruny defeated Taroona 8 - 6 (106 to 90 shots)

This game was canvassed as a 'must win' for Bruny if the Club was to remain in the Final Four with only 3 games of the Pennant Round remaining. History and the odds were against the Club as in Round 6 last season Taroona beat Bruny 84 to 64 shots on Taroona's grass green. Bruny's record on grass greens has been poor as it has been several seasons since Bruny has won on grass. With 4 regular players unavailable the team was reformed and included Jenny Martyn who was selected as the first female skip of a mixed rink at Bruny.

A further incentive for Bruny to win was to retain the "De'Entrecasteaux Shield" for annual competition between the two clubs. Bruny was successful!

The day started fine with thunderstorms predicted in the early afternoon. It was agreed by the two Clubs to play enough total ends (60) before having a break in case the match was washed out. This would ensure a result. On a flat green that ran very well Bruny revelled in the conditions to be ahead on all rinks at the completion of 60 ends. During the break for lunch there was a short rain shower which was not enough to stop play.

When the game resumed the condition of the green changed completely by slowing significantly. This enabled Taroona to make a comeback and they managed to get ahead on 3 rinks. The Bruny rink of Ashley Cooper, Max Burslem, Scott Bennett and Chris Martyn (Skip) maintained their excellent lead to win their game by 27 shots which enabled Bruny to win by 16 shots overall. Bruny has maintained its 4th position on the ladder.
