Bruny Bowls Club participates in the interclub Pennants Competition administered by Southern Tasmania Bowls Association (STBA). During the 2016/17 season (October – March) Bruny will compete in Division 2. Results will appear below as the season progresses.

Bruny vs. Oatlands (Home)

Bruny tied with Oatlands 7 - 7 (abandoned game)

Are we ever meant to play Oatlands at Bruny? Many years ago, in a lower Division, Bruny twice went to Oatlands but the return matches at Bruny were awarded to us as forfeits. When we played at Oatlands this season in Round 2 we played in the worst weather conditions I have encountered in over 30 years of playing Bowls. It was 4 degrees with horizontal hail and rain caused by high winds.

This game was looked forward to by our players. Some of the Oatlands players had arrived the night before and enjoyed the hospitality of the Club on Friday evening.

A severe weather warning had been given predicting gale force winds. That prediction proved correct. The ferry service was cancelled for several hours due to big seas, extreme high tide and high winds. The "Bowen" attempted to dock twice at Roberts Points but both dockings were aborted due to the dangerous conditions. The "Bowen" was then stranded in the Channel, fully loaded, for over an hour until it could be unloaded back at Kettering.

As a consequence the Oatlands team did not make it down to play and the game was abandoned.

The day was not wasted however as we ate very well and fed the Oatlands visitors who were here. We then managed to play several of the Club Championship Singles games. We are at present 6th on the Pennant Ladder on 80 points. The leading team is on 86 points so the final positions for the season are up for grabs.

The accompanying photo was provided by Jenny Chester showing the fully loaded "Bowen" off Roberts Point.
